![]() ![]() Also, you can now use electricity and industrialise your island. Again, you get lots of new buildings and technologies to play with. That’s 1945 by the way, just in case you’re wandering.Īfter that comes the Cold War. The goal is simple Survive until a peace treaty is signed. But trading with or praising the Axis might make the Allies angry, and vice versa. You can invite either sides to your embassy and forge relations and trade deals with them. But at this stage, Politics really plays a role. Little peoples running around the city with carts are replaced with trucks, and the dirty roads are replaced with concrete roads in your urban areas. You’ll unlock lots of new stuff to survive the world wars. Once that’s done, you unlock the ‘World Wars Era’. Once you’ve made enough military buildings or enough money and reached enough supporters, you can declare your independance. In it there will be differents laws about differents general stuff that you can customize. Like some RTS, you need to research technologies to unlock new buildings, edicts and constitution stuff. And also you’ll need tradeships in order to, well, trade. Later in the game, the U.S.A won’t be happy that you export Uranium to the USSR. The Crown might not like that you’re selling precious gold to the Dutch. Some places will pay better than the general market for your goods. ![]() But to make more money, you’ll need to make deals. You can just Export ressources like before, without worrying too much about who gets it and all. Off course you won’t be able to export fancy goods, so you’ll have to deal with the small profits raw ressources will give you. The main way of making money is still Exporting, even at the Colonial Era. While the crown gives you some from time to time, you need to make money by yourself in order to be independant. Wich means Game Over.Īnyway, so while you please the different primary factions, you also need money. And without supporters, you won’t achieve your goal and Tropico never exists. While you want to please the crown, you also want to please the Revolutionaries, since they’re your supporters for your primary goal. And your goal will be to make this possible, while staying in good terms with the Crown so your mandate does not expire.Ī new aspect of politics is what the factions think of you. The whole ‘El Presidente of Tropico!’ thing is barely even possible at this point. Because the crown did’nt just gave a piece of land to one of its governor forever. If you look at the new shiny interface, you’ll see a calender icon with a 4 years next to it. It’s really not a big deal, it’s just another phase of the game. Before the game came out, i was pretty excited about the colonial era, being a fan of the whole “New World colonization” stuff. The first Era, the “Colonial Era”, is basically the seeds of your dictature. More on that later), new goals and changes to the political world (You won’t deal with the U.S.A in the colonial era very much, for exemple). There’s not much differences between the Eras, other than some gameplay aspect, a whole lotta new buildings and technologies (Ooh, yes, technologies. “It’ll be kinda like Age of Empires” i thought. Thing is, one of the major new feature of Tropico 5 is the “Eras”. I got used to it quickly enough though, so that’s not really a problem. At first i felt quite uncomfortable, being used to the friendly and completely different interface of Tropico 4. You start the game on your island with only a dock, a palace and a few other basic things. I honestly quite love Tropico 4, even though most people says it’s just a pale copy of Tropico 3 with some new stuff. It has its own kind of humor, and managing a tropical island from the Carribeans has never been more fun. It mixes city-building, both inner and outer politics, and management. Note all of the above is TENTATIVE until release.I know Tropico since the third one in the series, and i grew to really appreciate the genre. We will continue testing and release this update asap if we don't find any major showstoppers. ![]() "This should give you an idea of what we're working on and which issues have already been addressed. "Hola Tropicans! New opportunity awaits and we have compiled a tentative preview changelog for the upcoming update 1.02," a developer post on the game's official forum reads.
